Τεκμήριο FEM SIMULATIONS OF CONTINUOUS WAVE LASER MACHINING PROCESSES ON A 3-AXIS MILLING MACHINE.(ΕΛΜΕΠΑ, Σχολή Μηχανικών (ΣΜΗΧ), Τμήμα Ηλεκτρονικών Μηχανικών, 2025-07-11) Γκόστα Αλέξανδρος; Gosta Alexandros; Δημητρίου Βασίλειος; Dimitriou VasileiosThis study explores the modeling and simulations of laser-metal interactions using a high-power Continuous Wave (CW) fiber laser system. Advanced thermal-structural finite element method (FEM) simulations, which provide detailed analyses of the laser-material interaction process, are employed. Temperature gradients, displacement fields, stress and strain evolution and distributions, are simulated to provide insights into the dynamic material response from low to high (2kW) energy regimes. By simulating both elastoplastic and thermal effects from elastic to ablation regimes, the study identifies critical process thresholds, including the required laser power density and irradiation duration for static and dynamic laser machining applications such as marking, etching, engraving, and cutting. The models follow the experimental setup which integrates a 2 kW TRUMPF CW laser assembled with a 3-axis CNC milling machine through a specialized optical system. The simulation results are compared with CW laser machining experimental results performed in parallel by S. Kamposos whose thesis was performed in collaboration with A. Gosta. The contributions of this work expand the knowledge base for developing predictive modeling techniques in laser manufacturing processes and optimizing their industrial applications.
