Using commercially available polyimide (PI) as a substrate and nanosecond and picosecond laser pulses, the study investigates the effects of key fabrication parameters such as repetition rate, power, pulse duration, and laser patterning on the quality of the resulting LIG. Through systematic optimization, LIG with a sheet resistance as low as 16 Ohm/sq was achieved, with its high quality confirmed via Raman spectroscopy, I-V measurements, and SEM imaging. The fabricated LIG was then applied as electrodes for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) in electrochemical hydrogen generation. Performance testing using Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and Chronoamperometry (CA) revealed that pure LIG electrodes outperformed functionalized samples, attributed to better exposure of the porous surface for interaction with the electrolyte. This work demonstrates the potential of LIG as a scalable, environmentally friendly material for energy applications while highlighting areas for further optimization to enhance its performance in hydrogen generation and beyond.
