More specifically, graphite was chemically modified by Hummer’smethod, and, through liquid phase exfoliation, graphene oxide (GO) was produced. GO was subsequently chemically reduced with Hydroiodic acid (HI) to obtain reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Besides GO and rGO, silver decorated graphene oxide (GO-Ag) was also produced using a variety of chemical synthesis protocols. All graphene related materials were evaluated in terms of theirantimicrobial properties using bacteria (Escherichia Coli) and pseudomonas (Pseudomonas Aeruginosa). The aim of this work is to investigate the potential of these materials as antimicrobial coatings, to be used in in a wide variety of applications such as biomedical implants, sterilization of shared equipment, surfaces andpublic areas, laboratories, hospitals, and othermedical services.
