Η παρούσα εργασία πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Εργαστήριο Εντομολογίας του τμήματος Βιολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης υπό την επίβλεψη του καθηγητή και καθοδηγητή, δρ. Κολλάρου Δ., ο οποίος βοήθησε και συμπαραστάθηκε σε όλη τη διάρκεια της διεξαγωγής της μελέτης. Τ
Med fly (Ceratitis capitata), order Diptera, suborder Cyclorrhapha, family Tephritidae, is considered to be a serious pest in all the warmer parts of the world for many species of plants, including these of citrus family, cherries and peaches, The diet of the adult insects reflects their physiological needs concerning the survival, birth rate and fertility. In our experiments, we used a kiwi-based diet as well as the standard breading diet in order to evaluate the results. There where three experiments, each one with different insect couple densities. Their goal was respectively: To verify the fitness of kiwi as a diet on the mating figures and to determine the best insect couple density in which the phenomenon would be more obvious. To test if there is a substantial difference between tap water and kiwi juice as a supplementary diet. To examine if kiwi has an effect on egg production of female Med flies in compare with standard breading diet. Estimating all the results, we come to the conclusions that kiwi increases the mating numbers in adult Med Flies, the best insect couple density from the tested is 20 couples per cage. Also we found that kiwi seems to have no affect on the egg production and there is no difference between tap water and kiwi juice as a supplementary diet.
